HEART: Home Health Aide Training

Healthcare workforce development since 2016.

CCHERS is dedicated to empowering Boston’s unemployed and underemployed residents, particularly women of color aged 24 to 60, many of whom live in public or publicly assisted housing. Through comprehensive training programs, CCHERS equips participants with the skills and certifications needed to thrive in the direct care and home health sectors.

The program includes a 60-hour foundational curriculum, the ABCs of Direct Care, and a 15-hour hands-on Home Health Add-On training, culminating in home health aide certification. Participants also earn two additional supportive care certifications in Alzheimer’s care and Mental Health. The program incorporates You Matter, a trauma-informed job readiness curriculum designed to help participants navigate employment opportunities with confidence and resilience.

These efforts are bolstered by strong collaborations with key partners, including the Home Care Aide Council, Mothers for Justice & Equality, and the Boston Housing Authority. Academic support is provided by the Simmons College School of Nursing, while industry leaders such as Anodyne, Associated Home Care, Advanced Home Care, MGB Home Care, and MGH’s Center for America’s Aging contribute practical training and employment pathways.

By addressing systemic barriers to employment and offering pathways to sustainable careers, CCHERS is advancing health equity while building a skilled and compassionate workforce that meets the needs of Boston’s communities.
